Heart - Wood Print
This striking ink drawing, titled Heart, is a standout from my earliest phase of intensive, daily doodling—when the pen moved freely across the page in long, unedited sessions of pure mark-making.
The entire composition is contained within a bold heart shape, a timeless symbol of emotion and vitality, here transformed into a dense, swirling interior world. Layers of intricate linework fill the form: flowing tendrils and biomorphic shapes coil and overlap like veins, chambers, and organic structures—some evoking anatomical fragments, others blooming into abstract floral motifs or geometric intrusions. Deep cross-hatching creates shadowy depths and textured gradients, while lighter, spiraling passages suggest movement, release, and subtle luminosity. Tiny details emerge throughout—eyes hidden in folds, bubble-like orbs, petal fragments, and curving arrows—woven into a chaotic yet strangely cohesive ecosystem that pulses with quiet energy.
Created through hours of intuitive, free-associative drawing with no preconceived plan, Heart simply grew from the rhythm of the pen. The result is a richly detailed field of marks that feels intimate and alive: a visual poem of inner complexity, where every line contributes to a sense of contained abundance and emotional texture.
This piece exemplifies the raw, exploratory spirit of those early doodles—unrefined, obsessive, and full of discovery. It invites prolonged looking: the longer you linger, the more relationships appear between forms, hidden pathways reveal themselves, and the heart shape begins to feel like a living container for whatever the viewer brings to it.
Now available as a wood print, this version brings an added layer of natural warmth and organic resonance to the original ink work. Printed directly onto sustainably sourced, FSC-certified birch wood, the artwork takes on a rustic, matte-finished presence where the subtle grain of the wood subtly interacts with the dense linework—enhancing the textured depths of the cross-hatching, the flowing tendrils, and the biomorphic forms. Unprinted areas reveal the wood's natural beauty, creating a seamless, edge-to-edge integration that makes the heart feel even more grounded and alive, as if the emotional landscape is emerging directly from the material itself.
